EVA turns 40
Monday 27th November, 2017
We are throwing a day long party to celebrate on Thursday 7 December
EVA International (previously known as e v+ a, Exhibition of Visual Art) was founded by Limerick-based artists and academics in January 1977.
As part of our day long birthday celebrations on Thursday 7 December, we're looking back over the past 40 years, decade by decade. Hear about art, jail, marriage proposal and other stories from the beginning of EVA to now.
EVA will bring together participating artists and founding members from the era for an anecdotal history. Speakers include Charles Harper (artist and founding member), Áine Nic Giolla Coda (artist), David Lilburn (artist), Ursula Walsh (former board member) and Tom Fitzgerald (former board member), this panel discussion will be chaired by former Director of the board of EVA, Hugh Murray.
The afternoon will include stories from Limerick School of Art and Design alumni and staff, and other artists who have participated in EVA throughout the 90s and the noughties. Speakers include Michael Canning (artist), Amanda Dunsmore (artist), Sean Taylor (artist), Michael Fortune (artist), and Des Farrell (artist). This panel discussion will be chaired by Limerick Arts Officer Sheila Deegan.
A second session will include Alice Maher (artist), Blindboy Boatclub of the Rubberbandits (Young EVA participant), Kevin O’Keeffe (former staff member of EVA), and Mark O’Kelly (artist), with a video interview from Sophie Gough and Mellina Van Der Valk (former EVA project participants). This panel discussion will be chaired by Director of Ormston House Mary Conlon.
The afternoon talks will conclude with a sound performance by Limerick School of Art and Design Lecturer, Paul Tarpey.
Both of these events are open to all, no booking required.
From 6pm we will share drinks with our friends and supporters at The Hunt Museum, Rutland Street. Please RSVP to the drinks reception email@example.com
