Thursday 27th July, 2017

Technical Training Programme

EVA International have partnered with CCA Derry~Londonderry to offer free technical training to people interested in working in art installation. The project is supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs with the aim of improving technical skills and resources for art institutions across the island of Ireland. Two sets of courses for prospective and professional visual art technicians will take place in Derry and Limerick.

An introductory technical training programme will take place in Limerick and an advanced art handling programme will be delivered in Derry. Each course will be delivered over two days with the introductory course taking place mid-September in Limerick in various locations, and the advanced course end October at CCA Derry~Londonderry. Both courses are subsidised and there will be no fee for participants, but places are limited.

The introductory programme will be delivered by Aidan Kelleher, EVA International’s Production Manager, and will cover health and safety, space preparation, art handling, visual art installation, and audiovisual installation.

The advanced programme will be delivered by John Bracken, Director, Patina Art Collection Care and Art Handling course leader from West Dean College. It will emphasise advanced manual handling, packing for transit, unpacking, hanging techniques and problem solving.

This is a project initiative by EVA International and CCA Derry~Londonderry as part of the Support Structures programme to develop the technical resources of the visual arts sector across Ireland. The project is supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
